legislation type Executive
Passed in 2020
Japan's fuel economy standards have been implemented and amended over time through ministerial ordinances. They aim at improving fuel efficiency and set targets to 2030 accordingly and were designed by a council on behalf of the ministry.

The current fuel efficiency standards for heavy duty vehicles will be about 13.4% stronger for trucks and about 14.3% stronger for buses compared to the current 2015 fuel efficiency standards. They apply for the period up to 2025.
