Passed in 2015

The Strategy follows the vision of a national system of protected natural areas integrated into the territory; managed between State and society; contributing to biodiversity and the provision of ecosystem services; to the sustainable use of natural resources; and the well-being of local communities and the society in general. It recognises sustainable development and the protection of the country's natural and cultural heritage as pillars for territorial management.

One of the Strategy's long term conservation objectives is to contribute to minimising the impacts of climate change through the protection of a set of sites specifically identified for this purpose.
