National Climate Adaptation Program

legislation type Executive
Programme
Passed in 2017
 As part of the implementation of the  National Climate Change Plan 2050 , the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) launched the National Climate Change Adaptation Program. The Program aims to carry out a systematic and participatory risk assessment as a basis for planning adaptation measures in four priority sectors: public health, energy, infrastructure, and the environment. It is geared towards increasing climate resilience by minimising risks and improving adaptive capacity, particularly among vulnerable groups, such as women, the elderly, persons living with disabilities, and young people who will inherit the increasing impacts of climate change. The Program entails the following:

  • risk and vulnerability assessment, and adoption of immediate low-cost measures;
  • mainstreaming of adaptation planning in development policies; and
  • monitoring and evaluation to ensure implementation of evidence-based adaptation measures.
