Summary

The National Environment Policy consists of a broad framework for environmental management in Saint Lucia, and establishes links with policies and programmes in all relevant sectors of economic and social development. The National Environmental Management Strategy aims to provide the specific directions and mechanisms to implement the government's vision. One of the goal of the Policy is to prevent and mitigate the negative impacts or environmental change and natural disasters. The Policy lays out a coherent strategy to meet that goal, through 1) the adoption and implementation of the National Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2) the Implementation of the National Climate Change Policy and Adaptation Plan, and 3) a comprehensive and effective application of regulations governing environmental impact assessment in development planning processes and procedures.
