The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA I.P) was established through the Decree-Law 56/2012, replacing the earlier Climate Change Commission (1998). Operating within the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy (MAOTE), it became responsible for monitoring and development of climate policy at the national level. The Agency holds the entire competence for climate policy development, thereby assuming a decisive role in the proposal, development and implementation of related policies.
