Law no. 27/2006 on civil protection
This law outlines the procedures for declaring a state of disaster and issuing disaster alerts in Portugal. It assigns the responsibility for prevention, response, and recovery activities during a disaster declaration to subnational and local governments. It also establishes the National Civil Protection Commission to implement policy guidelines, approve civil protection emergency plans, facilitate government cooperation, define disaster management standards, mobilise resources in disaster situations, and operate an Integrated System of Protection Operations and Aid.
