Crown Minerals Amendment Act 2019 and Crown Minerals (Decommissioning and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021

This Act amends the Crown Minerals Act 1991. It bans new offshore oil and gas activities and restricts onshore permitting.

The 2021 Act adds obligations to current and future petroleum exploration and mining permit holders and mining license holders. These must meet  the full financial costs of decommissioning activities, for which timeframes are also agreed. The document also 1) defines new record and reporting requirements, 2) defines new pecuniary and criminal sanctions for not decommissioning, and 3) sets rules on financial securities.
