This act outlines the general framework for nuclear energy production in Kazakhstan. It defines government competencies as they relate to nuclear energy, including allowing the government to develop a national policy for nuclear energy production, make decisions on construction of facilities, approve rules for siting, inspecting, and decommissioning plans, approve a national plan for nuclear safety, and create procedures to ensure compliance with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
