legislation type Executive
Strategy
Passed in 2018
This National Strategy for Sustainable Cattle Ranching with Low Emissions (ENGBS) is developed as an instrument for the implementation of the National Cattle Ranching Policy (MAGA, 2013). Likewise, the Strategy is part of the Framework Law to regulate the reduction of vulnerability, mandatory adaptation against the effects of climate change and the mitigation of greenhouse gases (Decree 7-2013) and contributes to the fulfillment of Guatemala's commitments acquired in 2015 before the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through of the National Determined Contribution (NDC).

The National Strategy for Sustainable Bovine Livestock with Low Emissions aims to: i) Increase the productivity and profitability of bovine production systems in the field of farms; ii) Increase the competitiveness of milk and meat production in national and international markets; and iii) Reduce the intensity of domestic greenhouse gas emissions from the cattle ranching subsector.
