Climate targets: Economy-wide

    • In terms of its contribution to the global mitigation of climate change, El Salvador is committed to having a reduction in annual emissions (by 2030 and with respect to a baseline scenario (BAU) from 2019) of 640 Kton CO2Eq from fossil fuel burning activities. In the Energy Sector and up to a reduction in annual emissions of 819 Kton CO2Eq in the same activities and sector, if during the period up to those years the technological models, financing structures, regulatory frameworks and massive capacity-building processes with international support in accordance with the provisions of articles 9, 10 and 11 of the Paris Agreement.

      El Salvador further agrees to have a cumulative reduction in emissions, for the period between 2035 and 2040, counted from 2015, of 50,857.5 Kton CO2Eq for emission reductions and activities to increase carbon sinks and reservoirs in the agricultural landscape of its AFOLU sector, provided that large-scale financing is obtained from international and national sources with the participation of the private sector.
