The goal of the strategy is that by 2027, Burundi should be a country with a forest carbon stock, allowing to increase the national economy and improve the living environment of the populations.

Burundi's updated NDC mentions the approval of a revised National Forestry Strategy in 2021, but this document has not been found elsewhere.
