Decree n° 6527/08 providing for the establishment of the Amazon Fund

This decree mandates the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to create the Amazon Fund.

The Fund must provide for: 1) management of public forests and protected areas; 2) environmental control, monitoring and inspection; 3) sustainable forest management; 4) economic activities developed from the sustainable use of the forest; 5) economic activities developed from the sustainable use of vegetation; (Wording given by Decree nº 8.773, of 2016); 6) Ecological and Economic Zoning, territorial ordering and land tenure regularisation; 7) conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; and 8) recovery of deforested areas.

The decree has been amended multiple times by successive governments to amend or suppress a range of clauses.
